South Staffordshire Council is currently undertaking a survey of open spaces in our villages to see how they are used and whether they can be improved.

Responses are invited via their questionnaire which can be found at: www.sstaffs.gov.uk/localplans maps of local villages and their existing open spaces are also available from this site, see ‘Locality 2’

Alternatively, copies of the survey are available from the Parish Council office (35 Stafford Street, Brewood), Brewood library, leisure centres and children centres.

I54 Update for Coven Heath Residents

i54 South Staffordshire have released an update for Coven Heath residents which contains information on work completed and forthcoming. It reads as follows:

i54 South Staffordshire – M54 Junction 2 Extension Works

With reference to the above scheme, I am writing to provide you with an update of the works already carried out and further works which will be taking place over the next few weeks.

Traffic management arrangements including temporary safety barriers and a temporary speed limit have now been in place for almost four months. Traffic flows are being maintained on the M54 and safety during construction is improved, therefore the measures are considered to be working well.

The recent spell of good weather has meant that new drainage works and the construction of the new embankments have been progressing at a rapid rate.

Work has recently started on extending the culvert carrying Waterhead Brook and on the new bridge over the motorway. The foundations are well under way and the steel bridge beams have now been delivered to site for the concrete deck to be constructed, prior to moving into place.

On 23 September 2013, work will be starting on extending the bridge over the canal. This will require the installation of temporary sheet piling along the edge of the motorway hard-shoulder for a duration of approximately 3 weeks. Although we have ensured that the correct and quietest equipment is used and it is screened wherever possible, residents may still hear some noise and we can only apologise for any inconvenience this may cause in advance.

In October/November the edges of the existing canal bridge are being removed by hydro-demolition. This is expected to take approximately 4 weeks and we are currently investigating all possible measures to mitigate the noise created from this activity.

The i54 site team are intending to arrange a further open evening with the local community during early October 2013. I shall provide further details in due course.

Should you have any queries on any aspect of i54, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards

Marie Johnson
