Latest Update for i54 Works

I54 South Staffordshire have released their May newsletter regarding works around Junction 12 of the M54 and along the A449 near Coven Heath. It is available to view here as a PDF file.

Further information can be found on the i54 South Staffordshire website.

M54 Junction 2 Extension Works Update

An update has been released by i54 South Staffordshire regarding works around Junction Two of the M54 next to Coven Heath. It reads as follows:

"With reference to the above scheme, I write to provide you with a brief summary of the works and
traffic management restrictions which will be taking place over the next few weeks on the M54.

To enable the works to commence adjacent to the M54 in mid May, traffic management will be
installed on the M54 in the vicinity of the i54 South Staffordshire site. This will involve the
installation of temporary safety barriers and narrower lanes on the eastbound carriageway and
temporary safety barriers on the westbound carriageway.

In conjunction with this, safety cameras will also be installed along the stretch of the M54, in
proximity to the site, to enforce a temporary 50mph speed limit.  This is to ensure the safety of all
road users and our workforce during the construction period of the new motorway access for i54
South Staffordshire. This traffic management will remain in place for approximately 14 months
with two lanes in each direction being maintained during the day time. Two lanes will also be
maintained at night time unless there are specific future work activities taking place over night
that require lane closures.

Traffic management to install these restrictions will be in place on the nights of 13

May. This installation will require an overnight closure of the M54 in both directions between J2
and J3 on these dates.  All efforts will be made to minimise noise during night time working.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Should you have any queries please do not
hesitate to contact us."

Coven Heath Allotments for the Less Able Bodied

Coven Heath Allotments Association are in the process of making available raised beds for the use of less able bodied persons.

In September 2012 CHAA made a good start clearing a vacant, overgrown plot with the help of some volunteers from Veolia.  Plot holders then continued, when time permitted from tending their own plots, to paint and erect some of the boxes, so a temporary layout could be viewed.

"We feel that these boxes would be just the job for people keen to grow some vegetables for themselves, but who don’t feel able to tackle a whole plot, with all the work it entails. The plot at the moment still needs work doing to it, to enable us to lay out the boxes in a suitable position for everyones needs, along with a path and perhaps a shed for storage. These will be completed in due course. So, if anyone fancies that lovely home grown taste and the satisfaction of producing your own veg, we look forward to welcoming you to Coven Heath Allotments."

The boxes measure approximately 4` x 3` with a depth ranging from 27” to 48”, and the cost would be £11 per year.

Also available taster plots and full size plots.

Coven Heath Allotments are situated parallel to the A449 just as you turn into Ball Lane at Coven Heath.
